SP - History
Scanner bought December 2003. Keenspace website reserved and plans to put the comic online before 2004 failed due to
the fact that I couldn:t access Keenspace through my school lab. An alternative was found- Angelfire. Earliest "SP"
comic date back to December 29th, but due to creative conflicts the first three fully-completed comics were
scraped and we started again from scratch.
SP launched January 18th, few rejoiced. HTML proved to be a large hurdle, and time was spent learning this instead of drawing.
Photoshop also proved an enemy, as can be seen with the first few comics. Oddly enough, I can:t find records of these pages
on my hard drive. But I know they are here somewhere. I think... But, anyway, they sucked eggs raw they were so bad.
Everyone has to start somewhere, I guess.
SP version 2 launched one month later, February 17 2004. A vast improvement over the previous, clumsy design. With
plenty of room for improvement, the arrival of new comics slowed down, and the filler comics became more common. Fillers
proving if anything, that I was working on the comic, and not getting bored and losing interest, which is something
I do quite easily.
SP version 3 launched April 10th, 2004. With a larger site and no banner pop-ups I was grateful and extra-happy my
friend Zero decided to lend a hand, and his server to me. New additions include this page, and the indie pages. When I get
around to doing the 10th one, I will change my Insert Credit forum profile and signature to reflect this. My avatar, too.
(but that:s a secret) I also will draw an avatar for another forum-goer, at his request.
A test front page for version 3.1 went up quietly (and incorrectly) on June 18th, 2004. Now with tables and color!...
Full site-wide implications have yet to be finalized and smoothed-out. So it may be another week until the complete debut
of version 4 can be seen. My bad.
As of August 8th, 2004, SP was moved from "donmarco.tsuki.net" to "donmarco.tokyopirate.com". Not much changed besides
that. As of writing this, I can:t go into detail about TokyoPirate.com or what exactly it is. Not that it matters anyways, since we lost that hosting provider.
The domain "www.secretpirate.com" was purchased on September 20th 2004, and the Version 5 comic followed about two weeks
later, debuting October 6th 2004. Check the news for details, but almost every page was edited. It must have taken a
good 15 hours to do, start-to-finish. Basically, the site was made easier to handle from my point of view. It:s still
got plenty of room to grow, and I:ll make sure it does just that. The only problem is that the comics section is about
50% done. I:m looking into that...
February 10-23rd 2005, SP was upgraded to 5.2. Adding easy to use folders specifically designed for hosting pictures,
avatars, banners, music or whatever I felt like. Examples would be some Flash videos of MGS3. Whatever. I get a million
billion gigs a month for bandwidth (lie) and figured I shoudl start to use them. At the end of my February paying period,
there was a 450% in site usage. This also brought in a few more people who thought it would be "cool" to sift through my
folders looking at every picture I had. Hey, whatever floats you boat. More focus on the comics will be seen, as I:m
virtually unable to make any new indie adventures. Virtually. Recently purchased two more domain names. Bringing me to
possess a grand total of three "dot com" domains. I'm thinking about getting another... Sigh.
